Empire of sin switch review
The lip syncing is laughably bad, textures are missing or blurry, theres a noticeable lack of anti-aliasing, the animation is wooden and yet, its actually very easy to stomach all that. So that’s our business with this Empire of Sin tips guide: giving you information to make your start as a top mob boss. However, there are some little nuances that you may overlook as time goes on. Update: I was able to complete that mission, using a workaround mentioned here: I'm glad I can continue playing the game, now. The adventure begins, and you see a small cut-scene showing the boss of your liking talk to someone else. Empire of Sin explains itself surprisingly well for a strategy game, and the tutorial will get you up to speed with managing your assets. And, well, being unable to continue the story (just when it was getting interesting!) is a complete deal-breaker.
It's sad because the gameplay shows promise and there are plenty of interesting little touches to the game (every gangster has a backstory, interpersonal relationships with other gangsters, traits that develop over time and affect gameplay), but overall it feels like an internal proof-of-concept more than a finished game. The 1920s gangster-era tactics game disappointed in various respects, unfortunately, with our tagline of 'Eliot Mess' giving you a good idea of what we thought of the Switch version in our review. this character driven, noir inspired game. Overall it's a game that never should've been released in this state. its up to you to hustle, charm and intimidate your way to the top of the pile and do whatever it takes to stay there.
Also of note is that the game has no antialiasing, at least in handheld mode (I'm playing on a Switch Lite), so the graphics are jaggy as hell. I did end up buying it on the sale and I've encountered plenty of little, annoying bugs and one agonizing, game-breaking bug where a story mission won't progress because an NPC's dialogue is missing: This renders the game unbeatable. Playscore of Empire of Sin on Nintendo Switch, based on critic and gamer review scores. Well, to answer my own question: no, the game is not worth buying in 2022.
